Time:2019-06-14 10:43 Author:Suny Group

The most recent trade statistics released by the U.S. Census Bureau indicates that exports of aluminum scrap registered marginal decline during the initial four-month period of the current year. The exports were valued at $773.55 million during this period, slightly lower by 3.99% when matched with $805.67 million during the corresponding four-month period in 2018.

China was the primary importer of aluminum scrap from the U.S. The value of exports to China totaled $182.14 million, accounting for almost 24% of the total U.S. shipments. Meantime, the Chinese imports from the U.S. dropped significantly by over 51%, compared with the previous year. In second place was India, with imports valued at $108.77 million. The Indian imports surged higher significantly by 82.34% year-on-year. South Korea emerged as the third largest importer, receiving $108.01 million worth of aluminum scrap from the U.S. The other key market destinations were Malaysia ($65.84 million) and Mexico ($62.73 million).

The above five countries together received more than 68% of the total aluminum scrap exported by the U.S. during Jan-Apr ’19.

The U.S. imported $279.59 million worth of aluminum scrap during the first four months of the current year. This compares with $329.10 million during the year-ago period, thereby translating into a year-on-year decline of more than 15%. The top sources of import were Canada ($181.89 million), Mexico ($76.25 million) and Guatemala ($4.68 million).
