The Egyptian crude steel output totaled around 705,000 tonnes, accounting for more than 55% of the total regional output. The country’s output surged higher by 16.4% over the previous year. Egypt’s production had totaled 605,000 tonnes in November 2017.

South Africa, with a monthly output of 528,000 tonnes, continued to be the second leading producer in the region. Meantime, Libyan output totaled 48,000 tonnes. The output by South Africa and Libya were down by 4.1% and 6.0% respectively, over the previous year.

The cumulative output by the African region during the first eleven months of the year totaled 13.411 Mt, higher by 8.3% when compared with the output of 12.378 Mt during the corresponding eleven-month period in 2017.
