Paris-based Suez has announced plans to build a plastic recycling plant in Thailand. This will mark the entry of the group into Asian plastic recycling market. The construction works for the building area are expected to be completed by mid-2020. The plant will have a capacity to process approximately 30,000 tons per year of polyethylene film waste, the company press release said.

The plant will be built in the Bang Phli district near Bangkok, Thailand. The state-of-the-art facility will be equipped with a full-fledged water treatment system which in turn will result in minimized water usage. In order to meet highest levels of environmental standards, Suez plans to derive part of the energy from rooftop solar panels. The green protocols at the facility is expected to make significant contributions in helping Thailand achieve its 2030 goal of 100% plastic recycling.

The plant will make use of locally collected LDPE and LLDPE films from across the region and convert them into high-quality post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR).

Commenting on the company’s decision to open new plastics processing plant in Thailand, Ana Giros, senior executive VP group in charge of the international division noted that the company will fully utilize its technological expertise in supporting the country to reduce plastic waste. Incidentally, Thailand generates approximately 2 million tons of plastic waste every year, out of which only around 25% is recycled.
