Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Panel Recycling Plant

Time:2024-05-09 15:12:00 Author:Suny Group

Solar photovoltaic (PV) panel recycling plants are key facilities for solving the solar energy waste problem. With the rapid development of the solar industry, more and more solar panels will enter the end of their service life, how to effectively recycle and dispose of these waste panels has become an important issue.

Composition of solar photovoltaic panels

Solar photovoltaic panels are mainly composed of silicon crystals, metal conductive strips (usually silver), EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer) encapsulation layer, glass panels, and aluminum frames. Of these, the silicon crystals are the core part of the solar energy that is converted into electricity, while the metal conductive strips are responsible for transmitting the electricity into the copper wires. The EVA encapsulation layer and the glass panels protect the silicon crystals from the external environment while allowing sunlight to penetrate. An aluminum frame provides structural support.1

Recycling Technology and Equipment

Currently, the main challenge in solar PV panel recycling is how to effectively separate and recycle valuable materials in the panels, such as silicon and silver. SUNY GROUP helps to increase the economic benefits of recycling by dismantling and recycling solar panels with new technological equipment.

The recycling process typically includes the following steps:

Pre-processing: The solar panels are first removed from their frames and the aluminum frames and copper wires are separated.

Deglazing: The EVA layer is separated from the silicon crystals and glass panels by processing with specialized mechanical equipment.

Physical Processing: Pure silicon and other materials are separated by physical methods such as grinding and screening.

These steps require specialized equipment handling machines. In addition, exhaust and waste disposal systems are in place to ensure that the recycling process is safe and environmentally friendly.

The recycling market is expected to witness tremendous growth opportunities as the solar industry continues to grow. By 2050, an estimated 80 million tons of used solar panels will need to be disposed of globally, which will provide a rich source of raw materials for the recycling industry. In the meantime, the technology and equipment for solar PV panel recycling plants developed by SUNY GROUP are evolving to cope with the growing demand for recycling. By improving recycling efficiency and reducing costs, these facilities will play a key role in driving the sustainable development of the solar industry.
