Toshiba American Business Solutions has reached a new milestone by recycling record volume of e-waste in 2017. According to the company, it recycled a record number of 228 metric tons of used toner products during the year. This is the highest ever volume in the company’s history. When matched with 2015, the recycled volumes have almost jumped higher by a third. The company had recycled only 174 metric tons of used toner products in 2015. Also, the company has recycled more than 1,000 metric tons of toner products since 2008.

Tom Walter, Toshiba America Business Solutions vice president of distribution and aftermarket sales stated that the high recycling figures indicate the company’s ongoing commitment to the environment. He thanked all of its clients for making the “Zero Waste to Landfill” initiative a big success. He reminded that the company recycles not only its own toners, but also accepts other vendors’ toner consumables for recycling. Incidentally, Toshiba is the first company in the entire industry to do so. The commitment to environment is a core value of the company, Walter added.

The recycling process turns used toner cartridges into several useful items like park benches. Toshiba’s partnership with ‘Close the Loop’ recovers and separates out valuable materials from spent imaging products by making use of a zero-thermal recovery process. The recovered components are then used in creation of new products. The powder extracted from toner cartridges are used to make an asphalt product that is widely used for resurfacing of roads. The recovered plastics are also turned into useful products.
