Bengaluru-based Cerebra Integrated Technologies announced launch of ‘India Cleanup Week’ from 13th to 19th, October this year, in a bid to tackle growing e-waste menace in the country. Incidentally, the country’s e-waste production is expected to surpass 3 million tons by the end of 2018.

The initiative is being launched in partnership with Manufacturers Association of Information and Technology (MAIT), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Ministry of Environment Forests and Climate Change (MOEFCC) and Digital India. It will be hosted by seven major Indian cities- Bengaluru, New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune and Ahmedabad, which are considered as the largest generators of electronic waste.

The week-long campaign aims to create public awareness on environmental and health hazards of e-waste, sound disposal practices and proper implementation of e-waste legislation. It intends to collect huge quantities of e-waste, as part of the drive.

According to V. Ranganathan, CEO and Founder, Cerebra Integrated Technologies, the lack of awareness about efficient e-waste management is a grave concern and critical challenge for the modern Indian society. He called for collective efforts from the government, NGOs and the general public in tackling the country’s fastest growing volumes of discarded or end of life electrical and electronic equipment.
