What is the meltblown fabric?
Medical masks generally adopt a multi-layer structure, referred to as SMS structure: a single-layer spunbond layer (S) on both sides, a single-layer or multi-layer melt-blown layer (M) in the middle, the best material for the melt-blown layer is melt Spray fabric.
The main material that brings the virus filtering effect to the mask is the middle M layer-meltblown nonwoven fabric.
Meltblown fabric is made of a polypropylene material called high-melt finger fiber. It is an ultra-fine electrostatic fiber fabric that can effectively use static electricity to absorb viral dust and droplets. This is also an important reason why masks can filter viruses. (If you do n’t know if your mask is anti-virus, it depends on whether there is a meltblown fabric in the mask)
In fact, these three layers are all non-woven fabrics, the raw materials are polypropylene, but the production process is not the same. Among them, the fiber diameter of the spunbond layer on the inner and outer sides is relatively thick, about 20 microns; the fiber diameter of the middle melt-blown layer is only 2 microns, made of a polypropylene material called high-melt finger fiber. It is fragile and cannot be washed with water or sprayed with alcohol. Even if it is wet and then dried, it will damage the fibers and cause loopholes. The virus will also pass through the loophole and the mask will lose its protective ability.
