Scrap Compressor Dismantling and Recycling Machine
Scrap air-conditioning and refrigerator compressors contain high-value metals such as copper, iron and silicon steel. However, traditional manual dismantling is inefficient, results in uneven cutting, and poses significant safety risks. In contrast, the automated compressor dismantling and recycling equipment developed by SUNY GROUP utilises plasma cutting to rapidly open the compressor casing, separate the stator and rotor, and facilitate subsequent copper recovery, thereby significantly enhancing the recycling value and processing efficiency of scrap compressors.
Designed for Different Compressor Structures
This compressor dismantling and recycling equipment is primarily suited for dismantling the casings of air conditioning and refrigerator compressors. As the structures of these two types of compressors differ, the equipment is equipped with three distinct cutting modes, enabling it to automatically adjust cutting paths and methods according to the compressor type.
Refrigerator compressors have a relatively simple structure; the equipment uses a rotational cutting method to cut a full circle along the top, enabling the upper cover to be opened quickly and the internal motor components to be removed. Air-conditioning compressors, however, have thicker casings and more complex internal structures; therefore, a dual-ring cutting method (top and bottom) combined with longitudinal cutting is employed to completely separate the casing, facilitating the rapid removal of the stator and rotor.
Compared to traditional oxy-fuel or manual cutting methods, plasma cutting is faster, produces a more uniform cut, and causes less damage to the internal copper wiring. At the same time, the automatic rotating clamping mechanism ensures cutting stability, reduces misalignment issues, and improves the overall consistency of the disassembly process.
PLC Control Combined with Plasma Cutting
The equipment primarily consists of a main frame, an electrical control system, a PLC touchscreen, a plasma power supply, a lifting mechanism, a clamping mechanism, a rotating system, and a fume extraction system. The entire machine employs automated control, allowing operators to set cutting parameters and operating modes directly via the PLC touchscreen, thereby reducing the complexity of manual operation.
In particular, the lifting and rotation systems can automatically adapt to compressors of different sizes, reducing the time required for manual positioning. The clamping mechanism ensures the compressor remains stable and vibration-free during cutting, preventing cutting errors. For enterprises engaged in long-term compressor recycling, such automated structures not only improve processing efficiency but also reduce the physical strain on workers.
The equipment is also fitted with a fume extraction system. As plasma cutting generates dust and metal vapours, this system effectively improves the working environment and is better suited to the demands of continuous production.
Currently, the volume of waste household appliances being recycled continues to grow. As compressors are components with a high copper content, their recycling value is attracting increasing attention from metal recycling enterprises. However, many recycling centres still rely on manual hammering and cutting methods, which are not only inefficient but also fail to achieve a thorough separation of copper and iron.
The advantage of automated compressor dismantling equipment lies not merely in ‘cutting open the casing’, but more crucially in enhancing the purity of subsequent copper recovery and the efficiency of the dismantling process. Once fully separated, the stator can be fed directly into copper granulators, copper drawing equipment, or motor recycling production lines for further processing, thereby reducing the pressure on downstream sorting operations.
