The scrap copper cable shredder and granulator is a system designed for cable shredding, copper-plastic separation, and metal recovery. Single-Shaft Shredder: Suitable for Scrap Cables of Various Specifications

Scrap cables typically consist of copper conductors, plastic insulation, and other sheathing materials, with significant variations in diameter, hardness, and internal structure. For cables that are thicker, longer, or difficult to feed directly into the granulator, the single-shaft shredder serves as a front-end pre-treatment unit, cutting oversized material into segments more suitable for subsequent crushing.

The main components of the single-shaft shredder include the feed hopper, hydraulic drive mechanism, shredding shaft, fixed blades, and drive system. Through low-speed rotation and high torque, the equipment is able to continuously grasp and cut cables, reducing the workload involved in manual pre-cutting. The size of the shredded material depends on the blade configuration, screen configuration, and cable type; the actual output specifications should be determined according to the feed requirements of the subsequent copper granulator.

Copper Granulator: Crushing, Air Classification and Vibrating Screening

The pre-shredded cables are conveyed by a conveyor into the main crushing system of the copper granulator. The equipment further crushes the material using high-speed rotating blades, thoroughly separating the copper conductors from the plastic insulation to form a mixture of copper and plastic granules.

The core configuration of a copper granulator typically includes a main crusher, an air classification unit, a linear vibrating screen, a blower, a dust collection system, and an electrical control cabinet. Air classification utilises the differences in density and aerodynamic properties between copper and plastic to direct different materials into their respective collection channels; the linear vibrating screen further improves the separation efficiency of the mixture through screen vibration and particle movement.

For feedstock containing a high proportion of fine copper wires or complex mixed cables, relying solely on air classification and vibrating screening may not achieve the desired results. Therefore, the equipment configuration must be adjusted to account for cable diameter, copper content, insulation thickness, and the required purity of the final product. Some production lines may also incorporate fine sorting equipment to handle small metal particles that are difficult to separate.

Equipment Selection and Practical Application

The throughput of a scrap copper cable recycling line depends not only on the model of the main unit but is also influenced by feed size, material continuity, crushing particle size, and sorting parameters. Taking the common 300–500 kg/h class of copper cable processing equipment as an example, this is suitable for small to medium-sized recycling operations with a stable supply of raw materials; higher throughputs require corresponding shredding, conveying, crushing and sorting systems.

In actual production, it is recommended to first sort the raw materials into categories—such as thick cables, fine wires, automotive wiring harnesses and mixed cables—before determining whether a single-shaft shredder is required, as well as the processing capacity of the main crusher and sorting system. A well-designed combination of equipment not only affects the efficiency of copper-plastic separation but also directly impacts blade wear, energy consumption, and routine maintenance.
