Small Shredder and Metal Briquetting Machine for Iron Chips
A scrap iron recycling production line comprising a small metal shredder and a continuous metal briquetting machine can first process long, tangled, and large pieces of scrap iron before continuously compressing the loose material into high-density metal briquettes, thereby improving the efficiency of material management in terms of workshop storage, transport, and subsequent smelting.
Small Shredder: Resolving Issues with Tangled and Uneven Feeding of Iron Shavings
Iron shavings generated in CNC machining workshops, metal processing plants and foundries typically consist of long strips, clumps and cutting waste of varying sizes. When baling is carried out directly, tangled material may affect the uniformity of feeding, whilst excessively large shavings can hinder stable compression.
As a front-end pre-treatment unit, the small shredder uses a low-speed, high-torque shearing method to tear apart, loosen and reduce the volume of long strips and clumps of iron shavings. The primary purpose of the equipment is not to pulverise the iron shavings into fine particles, but to improve the material’s form, making it more suitable for subsequent continuous briquetting. The actual blade configuration and processing capacity should be determined based on the length of the iron shavings, their oil content, and feed size.
Continuous Metal Baling Press: Compressing Loose Iron Shavings into Bales
The pre-treated iron shavings enter the continuous metal baling press, where, under the action of the hydraulic system and the compression chamber, they are continuously formed into metal bales of relatively uniform dimensions. Compared to loose iron shavings, the baled material is easier to stack, load onto vehicles and transport, and also facilitates a stable feed to smelting equipment.
The complete system typically comprises a feeding unit, a shredder, a conveying system, a metal baler, and an electrical control unit. The continuous design reduces the need for frequent manual loading, although actual production capacity still depends on the density of the iron shavings, their moisture and oil content, the size of the bales and the equipment specifications. For oil-contaminated iron shavings, requirements for oil removal, collection and environmental treatment should also be assessed prior to baling.
Suitable Applications and Equipment Selection
This combination is suitable for machining workshops, metal manufacturing plants, steel foundries and metal recycling facilities that continuously produce iron shavings. When selecting equipment, one should not focus solely on the theoretical pressure of the briquetting machine; it is also essential to confirm whether the iron shavings require pre-shredding, the daily throughput, the material dimensions, and the intended use of the final briquettes.
For iron swarf that is relatively short in length and has a good loose structure, a briquetting machine on its own may be sufficient; for material that is long, tangled, and heavily agglomerated, adding a small shredder is usually more beneficial for ensuring a stable feed. Selecting equipment based on the actual material is more important than simply pursuing higher briquetting pressure.
