A car bumper shredder is a specialised piece of equipment used for the dismantling of end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) and the recycling of plastics. It utilises a twin-shaft shearing mechanism to shred large bumpers and mixed plastics into uniform particles, laying the groundwork for subsequent processing.

Twin-shaft Shredder for ELV Bumper Recycling

During the dismantling of end-of-life vehicles, front and rear bumpers are typically made from engineering plastics such as PP (polypropylene) and ABS. As these components are large in size and possess a certain degree of toughness, traditional shredding equipment often encounters difficulties with feeding, entanglement, or low processing efficiency. For this type of material, the twin-shaft shredder employs a low-speed, high-torque shearing mechanism. Two sets of counter-rotating cutter shafts tear, compress and cut the bumpers, rapidly reducing the size of large plastic components.

This equipment is primarily used in:

End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) Recycling Centres

Car Dismantling Yards

Pre-processing production lines for waste plastics

Depending on specific processing requirements, our equipment can be configured with varying numbers of blades, blade thicknesses and screen sizes. Generally, the particle size of shredded bumpers can be controlled within the range of 20–100 mm.

Machine Structure and Operating Process

The automotive bumper shredder primarily consists of a frame, a dual-drive system, a gearbox, shredding shafts, wear-resistant blades, and a hydraulic feed mechanism.

During operation, the hydraulic system feeds the material into the shredding chamber, where the two shredding shafts rotate in opposite directions, utilising the shear force generated between the blades to progressively shred the bumpers. Compared to high-speed shredders, dual-shaft shredders operate at lower speeds, thereby reducing the dust and heat generated by high-speed friction in the plastic, whilst also minimising equipment wear.

Key features of the equipment include:

High torque output: Suitable for processing tough materials such as thick-walled bumpers and automotive interior plastics;

High adaptability: Capable of processing automotive plastic components of varying sizes and materials;

Easy maintenance: The blades are made of wear-resistant alloy and can be removed and replaced when worn;

Stable operation: The dual-motor drive structure enhances the equipment’s load-bearing capacity.

In the actual recycling process, the shredded bumper plastic typically requires further sorting to separate metal fittings, impurities, and different types of plastic, thereby enhancing the value of the recycled plastic.

With the increasing number of vehicles on the road, the volume of plastic waste generated by end-of-life vehicles continues to rise. A suitable bumper shredding system not only improves processing efficiency at dismantling facilities but also reduces the burden of manual dismantling and enhances the resource utilisation of waste plastic.
