Shredders equipped with liquid-phase separation systems achieve simultaneous solid-liquid separation through integrated shredding and liquid drainage filtration, thereby enhancing the recycling efficiency and operational stability of mixed waste bottles containing liquid.

The core function of such systems is not merely ‘shredding’, but the simultaneous completion of ‘shredding, liquid drainage and filtration’. The equipment typically comprises a feed conveyor unit, a low-speed, high-torque twin-shaft shredder, a sealed liquid-discharge trough and a multi-stage filtration and collection system.

Once the material enters the crushing chamber, it is gradually broken down under low-speed shearing action, thereby preventing liquid splashing caused by high-speed impact. At the same time, a continuous flow-guiding structure is installed at the base of the equipment; residual liquid is rapidly separated under the combined effect of gravity and the flow-guiding design, and enters a separate collection and filtration module. The solid fraction then proceeds to downstream conveying or secondary shredding systems, thereby realising a separation pathway where ‘solids follow the solids pathway and liquids follow the liquids pathway’. The entire process requires no manual pre-draining of liquids, nor does it necessitate any interruption to the production line.

From an operational perspective, the system’s greatest value lies in its stability and continuity. As liquids are diverted in advance during the shredding stage, the subsequent sorting processes (for plastics, glass and metals) take place in a drier environment, significantly reducing the likelihood of blockages and contamination. At the same time, cleaning cycles for the equipment are extended, and maintenance frequency is reduced, making it suitable for high-throughput applications.

In terms of applications, such equipment is commonly found in municipal mixed recycling centres, beverage packaging recycling production lines and resource recovery plants; it is particularly suitable for complex material systems involving a mixed inflow of plastic bottles, glass bottles and aluminium cans. For systems with high daily processing capacities, this design reduces the need for manual intervention and enhances the continuous operation capability of the entire production line.

Essentially, this type of equipment addresses not the question of ‘whether shredding is possible’, but rather ‘how to control the behaviour of liquids during the shredding process’. This represents a crucial step in the transition of mixed packaging recycling systems from crude processing towards engineered, stable operation.

Overall, through its integrated structural design, the liquid-separation shredding system compresses the traditional preliminary process of ‘emptying before shredding’ to be carried out within the equipment itself, making the recycling process more continuous, cleaner and better suited to large-scale operations.
